YOUNG AT ART FOR TWO MORE DAYS

22 January 2005

This weekend is the last chance for people to see a collection of award-winning portraits by young artists. Thousands have flocked to BP Portrait Award 2004 exhibition, which ends its run at Aberdeen Art Gallery this weekend.

The winning portrait, by Cruden Bay artist Stephen Shankland, has proved to be a huge pull. Nearly 25,000 visitors have visited the gallery to see the exhibition since it opened on December 4.

The exhibition showcases some of the country's top young artistic talent and two Saturdays during the run attracted more than 1,000 people each day. Shankland's winning portrait is of his wife Kelly and their toddler son Connor, who was born in 2003 with a life-threatening condition.
